What is Nature Day in Animal Crossing? This week in, players will be celebrating an event called Nature Day! Now revealed in a new trailer from Nintendo, Nature Day is an upcoming event arriving in-game on April 23 as a free downloadable update. The event is scheduled to last from April 23 - May 5 and will feature a special character named Leif. The Nature Day event is themed after Earth Day, an annual holiday in real life that celebrates and spreads awareness about the conservation of the environment. Who is Leif the Sloth?is a sloth that was first introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf where he ran a gardening store. Players could purchase items such as gardening tools, plants, flowers, fertilizer, and even young trees at his store. Leif will be returning as a visiting character with his garden shop in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
In the update trailer from Nintendo, it was revealed Leif will not only be selling flower seeds but shrubs as well. Pink and white azalea bushes along with orange and yellow tea-olive saplings were shown as purchasable items in the trailer. Leif the Sloth also appeared in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for the where he would visit campsites and ask players to collect rare ladybugs. In order to attract these special ladybugs, players needed to plant limited flowers for the occasion.
Once a player acquired a certain quantity of ladybugs, the insects could be exchanged for limited edition items such as furniture, decor, clothing, and accessories. It’s possible we will see something similar happen during Nature Day in Animal Crossing, however, it's worth noting New Horizons' Fishing Tourney followed a different model from Pocket Camp's, so there's a chance Nintendo has a different challenge in mind, if any at all. What to Expect on Nature Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? So far, Nintendo confirmed in its update trailer that Leif the Sloth will make a return to the series with his garden shop and will be introducing shrubs to New Horizons. Tom Nook will also have special Nature Day promotions for Nook Miles+ members and players will be able to collect Nook Miles by completing limited-time Nature Day activities like planting shrubs. It's also possible another new visiting character named Jolly Redd will show up this week. When he visits, players will be able to buy art and antiques on his treasure trawler. For a full rundown, catch up with our news roundup that details.
Also, make sure to check out later this week for more on the event. How Can I Prepare for Earth Day in Animal Crossing? If Nature Day features a challenge similar to Leif's Spring Flower Event in Pocket Camp, we suspect it will have something to do with planting flowers and/or trees. One particularly useful skill we encourage players to learn is creating hybrid flowers through crossbreeding.
Players can crossbreed flowers in Animal Crossing by taking two flowers of the same type, planting them diagonally from one another (or next to each other with a space in between), and then watering them. There is one important factor to consider, however, and its the color of the flowers. Not all flowers of the same type are able to crossbreed as only certain color combinations work! Take a look at our flower guide in our guide for a list of in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
