For the machine piecer, this is a necessity, particularly if you don't have a machine specific to quilting, or have an older machine that doesn't have feet manufactured for the machine. After years of trouble with 1/4' foot after another, this little gadget showed me how much bigger my seam was than the needed scant-quarter one needs for precise piecing. The only down side is that because the metal guide extents in front of the foot a little, it gets in the way if you have pins in your work. I have to remover the pins well before the needle is in the fabric at the seam I want to sew over. It does a great job at keeping the seem consistent though. I think this foot would work better perhaps for making doll clothes where you also want a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
